Kathmandu Metropolitan City New Mid-Day Meal Initiative for Students

Kathmandu Metropolitan City is taking steps forward to nurture its students. The latest move involves the provision of mid-day meals to a wider range of students, specifically those from classes 6 to 10.

Key Highlights:

  • Expansion of the Program: Previously, Kathmandu Metropolitan City had been offering mid-day meals only up to class 8 students. As of this August, this provision will extend to benefit students up to class 10.
  • Government and Metropolis Contribution: The federal government contributes Rs. 15 per student for those up to class 6. The metropolis, showcasing its commitment, has increased this sum. Since last year, an additional Rs. 10 to Rs. 25 has been added for each student.
  • Support for Younger Students: For students in public schools from early childhood development to class 5, the contribution has seen a boost. In addition to the Rs. 15 provided by the federal government, the metropolis has added between Rs. 15 to Rs. 30.
  • Immediate Action: The Department of Education, operating under the metropolis, has already penned communications to schools. The directive is clear: manage mid-day meals for students from Class 6 to Class 10, starting this August.

Word from the Officials:

Sitaram Koirala, a representative from the Metropolitan Education Department, spoke about this initiative. He highlighted the city's increased commitment compared to the previous years and the enhanced support for students in their formative years.

What This Means for Students:

With this initiative, students will likely see an improvement in daily nutrition, which can contribute to better concentration and performance in schools. This enhanced support not only showcases the city's commitment to education but also to the holistic well-being of its younger residents.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City continues to prioritize the needs of its students. This extended mid-day meal program, with increased financial backing, promises to make a significant difference in the day-to-day lives of many students. It’s a commendable step toward ensuring that every student has access to a nutritious meal during their school day.
