Free legal consultation services will be provided from all ward offices of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. This service is going to be provided by the Metropolitan Corporation in collaboration with Nepal Law Campus.
Navin Manandhar, the spokesperson of the metropolis, informed that the service will be provided from all the ward offices of the metropolis from next week. According to him, in order to provide services, students studying on the law campus will stay at the help desk in the ward office throughout the office period. From there, citizens can get written, oral, and both types of services free of charge as needed.
The campus will send students studying at LLM, LLB and BA LLB level to provide services. For this, an agreement has been reached between KMC and Nepal Law Campus under Tribhuvan University on January 31, 2023. According to the needs of the service user, all kinds of legal assistance including writing any application, complaint, petition, counter-answer, or draft written answer will have to be provided.
Similarly, along with oral legal consultation, information about service delivery from the said office should be provided. Special attention should be paid to the problems of senior citizens, people with disabilities, minors who cannot easily reach the office, and delivery of essential services.
It has been mentioned that for providing free service, the Metropolitan Corporation should provide Rs. 15,000 per month for the designated persons from the campus. Similarly, the metropolitan corporation will also have to provide the stationery materials required to provide the service.
The agreement will be in effect until the end of mid-July 2023. It is mentioned in the agreement that the agreed time can be extended as per the need. KMC believes that with the start of the service delivery, it will be easier for citizens to get legal services.
The service has not been delivered until a week has passed since the agreement was signed. KMC said that they will have to wait until next week for this. As the campus is discussing how many students to send, it is said that they will have to wait until next week to get the service.
