Guidelines for Textbook and Study Material Procurement for Schools in Kathmandu Metropolitan City

Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Executive Office has issued new guidelines for community and institutional schools within the city regarding the procurement and use of textbooks and additional study materials for the upcoming academic session. These directives are designed to standardize educational resources and ensure compliance with national education standards.

Textbook and Material Use

  • Community Schools

    • Mandated Textbooks: All community schools must utilize textbooks created by the Curriculum Development Center.
    • Medium of Instruction: For schools teaching in English, textbooks translated and published by the Curriculum Development Center should be used.
    • Reference Books: Reference books not published by the Curriculum Development Center are not eligible for funding from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City budget.
  • Institutional Schools

    • Curriculum Materials: Only additional curriculum materials listed by the Curriculum Development Center, Sanothimi Bhaktapur, are approved for use in the 2081 academic session.

Prohibited Practices

  • Sales of Materials: Public and institutional schools must not require students to purchase textbooks, educational materials, uniforms, or stationery directly from the school premises.

Compliance and Enforcement

  • Regulatory Compliance: Principals and headmasters are reminded to adhere strictly to the approved curriculum materials. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in actions under the Education Act, 2028, Education Regulations 2059, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Act 2075 and Regulations 2074.
  • Monitoring and Penalties: Schools found compelling parents and students to buy non-approved items or materials from the school may face legal actions as stipulated by prevailing laws.
