Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) Academic Action Plan:

Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) Teaching Hospital Jumla has unveiled its upcoming educational plan. On the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the upcoming educational plan has been made public in the exchange of good wishes program organized by the foundation today.

Dr. Niresh Thapa, head of education of the academy, informed that permission has been obtained from the government for teaching five seats at the post-graduate level. Stating that the institute has got university-level recognition, he said that preparations are being made for MBBS in the upcoming academic session.

He said, “As the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister and Vice-Chancellor KP Sharma Oli on 14 Poush 2076, the targeted program MD General Practice and Emergency Medicine three, MD Anesthesia and Critical Care one, MD Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery one seat program has been approved. Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Clinical Nutrition are also being conducted. ”

The government had given permission to the institute to teach post-graduate level medical education on the 30th of Shrawan. According to the report of the educational plan made public by the Academy, 264 students were enrolled in the reserved seats from 2071 BS to 2076 BS. So far, 518 staff nurses, health assistants, diploma pharmacy, Bachelor of Public Health, Bachelor of Midwifery have been studying. There are 240 staff nurses and 192 health assistants.

Registrar Vishwaraj Kafle said the foundation had demonstrated its capabilities in Covid-19. He said that the contribution made by sending doctors to different districts since the PCR test has encouraged the government and the people to work harder. Registrar Kafle said that preparations are being made to teach MBBS with the MDMS program and the government has promised to take it forward fully.

Preparation for MBBS:

The highly discussed MBBS program in the health sector of Karnali is also expected to be launched in Karnali. The government has formed an evaluation committee to take this program forward. The Medical Education Commission has formed a team and is ready to come for team evaluation, KAHS said.

At present KAHS is preparing the necessary manpower including MDMS and MBBS with 62 specialists. There are 11 professors, eight associate professors, 18 assistant professors, and 15 lecturers out of 52 teachers from the Faculty of Medicine, Basic Science, Public Health, and Pharmacy said Thapa.

He said that the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery has a staff of nine including two associate professors and seven lectures. The government has already allocated Rs. 70 million with the aim of making the establishment from 300 to 500 beds.

Dr. Suryaman Limbu, acting director and specialist of the hospital, said that the required services were provided for the health care of the people during the crisis. A central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Purna Prasad Chaulagain said that the academy has become a center of hope in the crisis and added that cooperation was needed with all for further upgradation.

The Academy, which has played a major role in the health, economic, and social upliftment of the people of Karnali, has recently developed a Bachelor of Nursing Science course in Jumla.

Emphasis on research: Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) has started bringing health education, services, and research together. The foundation has now started a study of research in healthcare and education in Karnali. The concept of 'One Doctor, One Institution' was put forward by the foundation eight years ago.

The community has committed to providing 722 Ropanis of land free of cost for conducting educational programs and constructing residential buildings, said Dwand Bahadur Shahi, Chief Administrative Officer of the Foundation. According to him, 322 Ropanis of land have come under the ownership of the foundation.
