Joe Biden Sworn in as 46th President of the United States:
Joe Biden has become the 46th president of the United States. Biden was sworn in as president at a special ceremony in Washington, DC. He took the oath of office with his 127-year-old family Bible in his hand. Biden, 78, is the oldest leader in US history to hold the presidency. He was sworn in at noon local time on Wednesday.
The swearing-in ceremony was held amid tight security. Donald Trump, the outgoing president, did not attend the ceremony. But Mike Pence, who has served as vice president, did attend. Trump left the White House to attend a farewell ceremony just hours before his inauguration.
Kamala Harris has been sworn in as Vice President. Harris is the first woman to become vice president and the first black woman.
Before the swearing-in ceremony, Biden and Harris went to the local church to pray. After that, they reached the Army Memorial Park.
Biden signed some executive orders on Wednesday. Biden, who won a landslide victory in the November 3 election, defeated President Donald Trump by 306-232 electoral college votes.
Still not fully accepting defeat, Trump did not attend the ceremony.
Two weeks ago, five people, including a police officer, were killed in a violent attack by Trump's supporters in an attempt to overturn the results. Trump has been indicted for the second time on the same issue.
Earlier, Biden was a vice president in the Barack Obama administration. He served as a senator from Delaware for 36 years in Washington.
Biden has said he wants to be president of the United States, work for all, and unite the divided country.
Biden has succeeded in his third attempt to become president. Biden, who has taken on the role of leader of the world's most powerful nation in his old age, has the challenging task of controlling the coronavirus epidemic, reviving a weakened economy, revitalizing the isolated country on the world stage, and uniting divided United States and Americans.
