Joe Biden Elected 46th President of the United States:
Democratic candidate Joseph Robinette Biden Jr (Joe Biden) has been elected the 46th president of the United States, defeating incumbent President Donald Trump. After three decades in US history, Biden, the other party's candidate, defeated the incumbent. Earlier, in 1992, Bill Clinton defeated President George W. Bush.
Biden secured at least 290 votes out of a total of 270 needed to be elected president, according to the New York Times. Biden has secured a trip to the White House after being elected to the states of Pennsylvania and Nevada on Saturday. Biden, 78, is the oldest person to be elected in US history. He received the most votes in the history of the US presidency. So far, he has received 74.8 million votes.
Media outlets, including the Associated Press and USA Today, have claimed that 290 electoral votes were cast in favor of Biden. He claims that Biden will win even in the state of Arizona. He said the results for Georgia, North Carolina and Alaska were yet to be finalized. In Georgia, Biden leads, while Trump leads in the other two. Trump has so far garnered 214 electoral votes. If he takes the lead, Biden will have 306 electoral votes, while Trump will have 232 votes. This time around, a majority of pre-election opinion polls suggest that Democrat Biden could easily defeat Trump. However, amid intense competition, Biden has emerged victorious.
Similarly, Kamala Harris has become the first woman vice president in the history of the United States. She even became the first black immigrant vice president in US history. Harris is the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother.
Biden has even garnered the most popular vote in US history. He has received 74.85 million votes so far. Earlier, in 2008, Barack Obama was elected with 69.5 million popular votes. This time, the defeated candidate Trump has also broken Obama's record by getting 75.98 million votes.
After securing the presidency, Biden said his victory proved that democracy was deeply ingrained in the hearts of the American people. "I do as much for the American people who vote against me as I do for those who vote for me," Biden said in a statement. "It's time for the United States to unite.
But, for that, we have to be integrated. However, President Donald Trump has not yet conceded defeat. Rejecting the election results, he has repeatedly tweeted. On Saturday evening (morning in the US), Biden's victory was confirmed, but he tweeted, "I won this election by a wide margin." He has again issued a statement accusing him of conspiring to defeat him in the election. "This election is not over. Biden has not been elected in any of the states that have been elected," he said. He has accused not only the Democratic Party but also government officials and the media of conspiring to defeat him.
Trump is not the first president to be defeated for a second term. He is the fifth president in the 100-year history of the United States to be defeated during his tenure. Earlier, in 1992, Republican President George W. Bush lost to senior Democratic candidate Bill Clinton. Democrat Jimmy Carter lost to Republican Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election. Carter also entered the White House in 1976, defeating incumbent President Gerald Ford. Earlier, in the 1932 election, Republican President Herbert Hoover lost to Democrat Franklin Roosevelt. Roosevelt served three full terms as president and died in 1945 during his fourth term. He is the only person in US history to have served more than two terms as president.
