Januka Dhakal has been appointed as the Development Commissioner of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA). A meeting of the cabinet held on Sunday appointed Dhakal as the development commissioner.
Dhakal is the editor of Navnari Monthly magazine. She has received the appointment letter from the Ministry of Urban Development.
The government had called for an application for the post of development commissioner on March 25. Of the eight applications, the names of three were recommended and sent to the Council of Ministers. The names of Dr. Shyam Sundar Bohora and Bhupendra Prasad Aryal along with Dhakal were recommended.
According to the Upatyaka Development Authority Act, the Government of Nepal has a provision to appoint a person working in a special category, or above, or has already done so, or a distinguished person in the related field as the executive head of the authority.
The term of office of the Development Commissioner is a maximum of five years. The Government of Nepal may, if it so desires, extend its term for a maximum of five years. Earlier, Bhaikaji Tiwari had served as the Development Commissioner for two consecutive terms.
