Nepal Israel

The Israeli government has decided to provide employment to only 500 Nepalis as caregivers, despite Nepal's request for 1,000. The first round of lucky draw selection brought 84 people, out of which 24 went to Israel. However, the rest will need to complete the new process and apply from the beginning as the Israeli government has rejected Nepal's request to take even those who were not selected earlier.

Employment Opportunities in Israel's Agricultural Sector

In addition to providing employment opportunities for Nepali caregivers, Israel is discussing the possibility of sending Nepali workers to the agricultural sector. The labor agreement between the two governments has already allowed 1,024 Nepalis to enter Israel, and the issue of sending more Nepali youth to the agricultural sector is currently being discussed.

Initiatives to be sent to the Construction and Agriculture Sectors

The Nepalese government and Israel have also discussed sending Nepali youth to the construction sector, and Nepal has formed a seven-member negotiation team for representation in the joint working group. The team will discuss with the Israeli team the number of workers required, minimum qualifications, training, selection methods, and minimum wages.

Monthly Salary and Contract Period

Nepalis going to Israel as caregivers have been receiving a monthly salary of $1,600 USD, which is equivalent to more than NPR 190,000 according to the current exchange rate. The contract period for Nepalis working in Israel is one year, but it can be extended up to five years. The laborers who go for this, including airfare, health insurance, orientation, passport, health tests, and welfare fund, have to spend a maximum of NPR 85,000.

Overall, Despite Nepal's request for 1,000 caregivers to be employed in Israel, only 500 Nepalis will be employed, and those who were not selected in the first round will have to apply again. However, discussions regarding employment opportunities in Israel's agricultural and construction sectors are underway, which could provide more opportunities for Nepali youth.
