Indian News Channels Banned in Nepal:
Broadcasting of some news-oriented Indian television channels broadcasting misleading news and analysis against Nepal's nationality and self-respect has been banned in Nepal.
Foreign channel distributors Multi-System Operators (MSOs) have stopped broadcasting Indian news channels in Nepal since Thursday. After misleading news and analysis against Nepal started circulating in Indian channels, the customers of the channel had been urging the distributors to shut down such channels by phone and texting.
Dish Home, Mega Max, DSN, My TV, and others have collectively decided to stop broadcasting Indian news channels including Aajtak, Zee News, ABP News.
According to Sudip Acharya, managing director of Dishome, except for the government-owned Doordarshan and some business televisions, television channels broadcasting misleading news against Nepal will not be seen in Nepal from Thursday evening.
Indian TV channels have been broadcasting misleading news including the publication of an updated map of Nepal, including the names of Tarai Madhes leaders, on issues of internal political and diplomatic dignity. Managing Director Acharya said that after the broadcast of anti-Nepal 'content' on the Indian channel, the Indian channel was symbolically banned due to the advice among the distributors.
He also said that the government should take special initiative to stop anti-Nepal content broadcasting through YouTube and the internet.
He said the government could revoke the downing license of the Indian channel, adding that unauthorized video content from the internet should be stopped even before the "Clean Feed" was implemented.
