Impressive Performances in SEE, but No A+ in 16 Subjects

The National Examination Board (NEB) has unveiled the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) in which students showcased laudable performances. However, in an unusual turn of events, no student scored an 'A+' in 16 subjects. The examination spanned across a wide variety of 83 subjects in different streams.

No Students Achieve Top Grades in Certain Subjects

Notably, not a single student was able to clinch the coveted 'A+' grade in the following 16 subjects:

  • Environmental Science
  • Sociology
  • Newari
  • Urdu
  • Sanskrit Language and Literature
  • Elective English
  • Ethics
  • Vedas (Shukla Ayurveda)
  • Justice
  • Geography
  • English
  • Applied Astrology
  • Tarka Sangraha
  • Journalism

These are all optional subjects in the SEE curriculum. However, students have triumphed in securing 'A+' grades in 67 other subjects.

Grading System and Outstanding Results

In an attempt to gauge the performance of students more accurately, the NEB employs a grading system ranging from 'A+' to 'E'. In this system, any grade lower than 'A+' implies that the student didn't achieve the highest possible grade. The results reflect that a significant number of students have excelled particularly in subjects such as music, astrology, and food science.

The optional second paper computer science turned out to be the most successful subject, with a staggering 31,872 students receiving 'A+'. In addition, 22,574 individuals achieved 'A+' in the compulsory subject of health, population, and environment.

Other subjects with a high number of 'A+' achievers include:

  • Office management and accounting: 2,288 students
  • Compulsory mathematics: 19,330 students
  • Compulsory English: 17,629 students
  • Optional mathematics: 15,658 students
  • Compulsory science: 9,573 students
  • Compulsory Nepali: 3,540 students
  • Compulsory social studies: 2,397 students

Grade Increment Examination: A Second Chance

To cater to students who wish to improve their grades, the NEB has scheduled a Grade Increment examination on Shrawan 26 and 27. The Controller of Examinations (Class 10), Bishnunarayan Shrestha, stated that students who have received a 'C' grade or below can opt for this re-examination in up to two subjects. This decision highlights NEB's commitment to providing opportunities for students to better their academic records.

In conclusion, the SEE results revealed the efforts of students across different subjects, with a few areas for improvement. The NEB's approach, with its balanced grading system and second-chance policy, helps ensure that the academic potential of students is accurately represented and opportunities for advancement are not missed.
