Ministry of Health and Population to Celebrate Immunization Week in Nepal from April 24 to April 30, 2023

The Ministry of Health and Population in Nepal has announced that it will celebrate Immunization Week from 11th to 17th of Baisakh 2080 (April 24 to April 30, 2023). The aim of this week-long celebration is to ensure that all children who missed vaccination are fully vaccinated in Nepal. The Ministry intends to celebrate Baisakh as the month of ensuring and verifying full vaccination.

Weekly Vaccination Drives to be Conducted

According to Dr. Vivek Kumar Lal, director of the Family Welfare Division of the Ministry of Health, all children who have missed vaccination will be given weekly vaccination. The Director has highlighted that as the number of children missing vaccinations in various districts is increasing, the risk of epidemics such as measles and rubella may increase.

Campaigns to be Conducted for Missed Vaccinations

The first week of Baisakh will provide information on complete vaccinations to be administered for 15 months through various means. The Ministry will also identify children who have missed vaccination, and two days of regular campaigns will be conducted on 15th and 31st of Baisakh. Additionally, on 6th and 7th of Baisakh, a list of children who missed vaccination will be prepared during the feeding of vitamin 'A'.

Special Programs and Household Surveys to be Conducted

To ensure that all wards and local levels have been fully vaccinated, a special program will be conducted in brick kilns, factories and other places where vaccinations are missing. Household surveys will be conducted in all wards and health institutions according to the national vaccination guidelines, municipal ward vaccination coordination committee meetings and other activities will be conducted.

Monitoring of Vaccination Cards in Schools

Director Lal informed that information and coordination will be done in all schools to monitor the vaccination card for all children under five who will be newly enrolled in the school for the next academic session.

Mandatory Vaccination

Vaccination will be made mandatory in the distribution of various services and facilities for children at the local level. Division Director Dr. Lal informed that all local levels have been requested to make the vaccination week a success through the Ministry of General Administration.
