HISSAN Urged Govt Not to Implement New Curriculum in Class 11 from this Year:
Private school owners have disagreed with the government's decision to implement a new curriculum for students studying in class 11 from the 2077 academic session. The Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools Association of Nepal (HISSAN) has taken a stand that students should not be made an additional burden, contrary to the international practice of reducing the burden of students in the current situation.
HISSAN Secretary Ram Hari Silwal said that they have reached a formal decision not to implement the new curriculum in the current situation where the academic session has to be completed in six / seven months and it is difficult for students and teachers to prepare for the study. He clarified that with the addition of subjects in class 11, schools should pay attention to many issues including physical infrastructure and teacher preparation. The government has informed that the new curriculum will be implemented from class 11 from 2077 BS and necessary preparations have been made for it. According to the government's preparations, three compulsory subjects will now have to be studied in class 11. Three subjects will be made compulsory by studying Nepali, English and social studies. Earlier, only two subjects, Nepali and English, were compulsory in class 11.
Silwal said the government should not implement a new curriculum in Class 11 when the Class 10 Secondary Education Examination (SEE) could not be conducted and there was confusion about the Class 11 and 12 examinations.
As about 70 percent of the students in class 11 are studying in private secondary schools, the association has demanded to work in coordination with them.
