The government has decided to give Rs 500,000 each to the players of the women's champion Nepali team under the Asian Senior Central Zone Men's and Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Tuesday.

A meeting of the cabinet held on Wednesday decided to give Rs 500,000 each to 12 players, Rs 300,000 each to two coaches and Rs 200,000 each to officials, said Youth and Sports Minister Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj. "The government is going to honor the women volleyball players with cash prizes as they have enhanced the prestige of the nation by winning the title for the second time in a row," said Minister Gahatraj.

Nepal had won the title by defeating Uzbekistan 3-2 in the final on Tuesday. Nepal has become the champion for the second time in a row. The Nepali women's team had earlier won the title in the championship held in Bangladesh in 2019 without losing a single set from the league stage. Nepal Volleyball Association has stated that the Nepali team will return home on Thursday.

The Nepali women's volleyball team has clinched the title of the Asian Central Zone Women's Volleyball Championship held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Tuesday. This is the second international success of the Nepali women's volleyball team. Earlier, the Nepali women's team had won the same international competition in 2019.

However, at a time when the overall Nepali sports sector is shifting to the left, due to various reasons including social, physical and economic, the participation of Nepali women in the sports sector is relatively low.

Even in this, participating in women's sports in our society, which is considered a waste of time, is a bold and challenging issue in itself. Overcoming all these challenges, it is a matter of national pride for the Nepali women's volleyball team to go beyond Nepal and participate in the Asian Central Zone Women's Volleyball Championship and win the title.

The national significance of the title is also evident from the fact that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the successful female players for winning the title.
