Gandaki University has completed two years of its establishment and celebrated its anniversary on Wednesday. Gandaki Province had established a state-level Gandaki University by passing an act.
The Gandaki university was established after the Province government passed the bill 2076 to establish, operate and manage Gandaki University. Prof. Dr. Ganesh Man Gurung was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor on 2076 Falgun 4 as per the provision of the provincial government to make Gandaki Vice-Chancellor from among the professors with the aim of making the higher education sector free from politics.
Since its inception, the university has been focusing on study, research, teaching, research, and invention. Gandaki Chief Minister Krishnachandra Nepali Pokharel inaugurated the innovation center at Pokhara 32 on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pokharel said that the university was a quick response to those who said that nothing had happened in Gandaki. "University is a great answer for those who say where the provincial government is," he said. "It is also an example for those who say nothing has happened in federalism together."
He said that in order to make it even better, it is necessary to move ahead in consultation with university experts from other countries. He said that the Province government was ready to help with this. He said that the university has started a good work by bringing a concept while realizing the need for a teaching hospital in Gandaki as the health sector is the priority of the Province government. He informed that the provincial government has already started the process for this.
Outgoing Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung said that he has worked to inspire other Provinces by establishing a university in Gandaki. He said that the work of setting an example in higher education by operating and managing it in a very different way from other universities has been going on from the very beginning. He wished the Gandaki University, which was established with the aim of producing skilled manpower that could be sold in the world market and the needs of the Province, to be completed in two years.
He was of the view that there should be no pro-government or anti-government for the development of Gandaki University as the provision of having a vice-chancellor from among the professors has been established saying that there should be no politics in the education sector. Gurung said that he would be with them for the development of the university.
According to Chancellor Gurung, Gandaki Pradesh has set an example by making the higher education sector free from politics by appointing a Chancellor from the academic sector in the university. "First of all, we are working on the academic, administrative and financial management of the university by forming a 15-member board of trustees," he said. He said that they are preparing to build a university building on the one hand and create an educational and academic environment for teaching on the other. He said that as it emphasizes teaching and research, the environment is conducive for academic work after the professors enter the university.
Minister for Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Social Development Mekhlal Shrestha, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota, Registrar Kailash Timilsina, Vice Chairman of Gandaki Province Policy and Planning Commission Raghuraj Kafle, and others extended best wishes at the program.
