Gandaki Province Public Service Commission (GPPSC) officials took oath:

Gandaki Province Public Service Commission (GPPSC - Gandaki Pradesh Lok Sewa Aayog) officials have taken oath on Wednesday. Chief Justice of Pokhara High Court Ramesh Pokhrel administered the oath of GPPSC Chairman Bishnu Prasad Nepal in the presence of Province chief Amik Sherchan. Immediately, Chairman Nepal administered the oath of GPPSC member Kalpana Lamsal.

Both the chairman and the members reached the office on Wednesday and resumed their posts. After taking office, Chairman Nepal expressed his commitment to work for the strengthening of federalism under the rule of law.

The committee chaired by the Chief Minister recommended Bishnu Prasad Nepal to the Chief of the Province last Friday. The committee had also sent the name of Kalpana Lamsal to the head of the province. She is the Deputy Chief of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Campus of Tanahu Damauli.

Pursuant to Article 3 (3) of the Provincial Public Service Commission Act, 2076 BS, there is a provision for the appointment of the chairperson and members of the commission by the Chief Minister, the Speaker, the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, and the Leader of the Opposition. Among them are Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, Chairman and members are Speaker Netranath Adhikari and Leader of the Opposition Krishnachandra Nepali.

To make the public administration capable, strong, and service-oriented by promoting the qualification system by maintaining cleanliness and fairness in the selection of suitable candidates for the posts of Province Civil Service, State Police Service, Other Government Services of the Province, State Organized Institutions, Local Government Services, and Local Level Organizations. A service commission has been formed.

The Gandaki Province Public Service Commission (GPPSC) was formed in 2076 BS. The Chief Minister had spent so much time in search of a suitable person for the post. As there were no officials in the commission, the province itself could not even recruit staff. On the other hand, even without the Federal Civil Service Act, the province has a problem in recruiting staff.

The term of office of the chairperson and members of the commission is six years from the date of appointment. The age limit is 65 years. Although the chairperson can be appointed after the expiration of the term of the member, the chairperson will not be re-appointed. The law stipulates that a person who has obtained a master's degree from a recognized university to be a commission official and is not a member of any political party at the time of appointment. Article 242 of the Constitution of Nepal provides for a Public Service Commission in the province.
