Gandaki Pradesh will be declared a fully literate province. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to declare Gandaki a literate province on October 10.

All 85 municipalities and 11 districts of the province have been declared literate. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Social Development said in a press conference in Pokhara on Friday that it was preparing to declare the province a literate province.

In Gandaki, the average literacy rate in the age group of 15 to 60 years is 96.57 percent, according to the ministry. According to the ministry, Kaski district has a literacy rate of 96 percent, Syangja 96.16 percent, Tanahu 96.40 percent, Lamjung 95.5 percent, Gorkha 97.20 percent, and Nawalpur 98 percent. Similarly, Parbat has 96.93 percent literacy, Baglung 96.57 percent, Myagdi 96.27 percent, Manang 96.90 percent, and Mustang 96.35 percent.

According to the United Nations Global Practice, more than 95 percent of citizens in the 15-60 age group are literate. Based on the same practice, Nepal has also passed a policy to declare literacy in the regions, districts, provinces, or nations where more than 95 percent of the citizens in the age group of 15 to 60 years are ensured to be literate.

Minister for Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Social Development Mekhlal Shrestha informed that the province is being declared a literate province as per this policy. He said that literacy has been declared in all 85 local levels and 11 districts of the province.
