Fostering Innovation and Research in Universities for National Development
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has underscored the significance of transforming universities into vibrant hubs of innovation and research. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the National University Teachers' Association's first national convention, he emphasized the need for fundamental higher education grounded in research.
In his address, Prime Minister Prachanda encouraged academic discourse on theoretical and philosophical aspects of development and transformation. He stressed the importance of drawing from global experiences, theories, and philosophies to find a suitable model of development and change for Nepal. The Prime Minister highlighted the critical role of university-level research, urging professors to focus on conducting impactful research.
Identifying educational unemployment as a pressing national concern, the Prime Minister urged professors to design higher education courses that foster employment, self-employment, and prosperity by creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem within the country. He emphasized the importance of integrating information technology into university curricula and teaching methods, as it enables the development of a skilled workforce aligned with the demands of the modern era.
Prime Minister Prachanda recognized that institutional corruption has weakened the economic sector and emphasized the government's commitment to eradicating corruption and promoting good governance. He emphasized the need for collaboration between professors and the educational sector in combating corruption to ensure effective governance in the country.
During his visit to India, the Prime Minister expressed the intention to resolve critical issues, including the long-stalled trade transit treaty, expansion of air routes, resumption of the Pancheswar multi-purpose project, and addressing border concerns. These efforts aim to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance economic opportunities for both nations.
Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized the imperative of corruption-free governance and highlighted the role of educational institutions in teaching morality and instilling principles of good governance. He aspired for universities to serve as role models of virtuous practices and effective governance.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Prachanda shared that the government is preparing the budget in alignment with recently passed policies and programs. To address challenges in the education sector comprehensively, he proposed the establishment of a high-level education commission.
Acknowledging the complexities surrounding the passage of the policy program, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to aligning the budget with the outlined policies. He revealed plans to introduce a revolutionary program aimed at increasing agricultural production and generating employment opportunities for youth across all 753 municipalities. This initiative seeks to drive sustainable growth and empower the nation's young population.
By prioritizing innovation, research, and good governance, the government aims to propel Nepal towards socio-economic progress, ensuring a prosperous future for its citizens.
