Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee no more:

Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has died. His son Abhijit Mukherjee has tweeted the news of his father's death. He had been hospitalized for the past three weeks.

According to Indian media, former President Mukherjee died at a hospital in New Delhi on Monday afternoon. Mukherjee, 84, was found dead at his residence on Rajaji Marg. Mukherjee, 84, had to undergo brain surgery after a blood clot formed in his brain. On August 11, he underwent brain surgery. Since then, his health has improved. But on Monday morning, his health condition suddenly deteriorated, citing doctors involved in his treatment, Indian media reported.

Born in a remote village in Bengal, Pranab Mukherjee has been active in Indian politics for five decades. He had built his personality as a respected and efficient leader in India. Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher and journalist. He first entered the Rajya Sabha in 1969. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha five times.

In 2004, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jangipur in Bengal. In 2009, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha.

In 1972, he was first sworn in as a member of the Council of Ministers in the Indira Gandhi-led government. After that, he continued to be the Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense.

He ran for president in 2012 on behalf of the Progressive Alliance. And was elected for five years. In January 2019, Mukherjee was awarded the Bharat Ratna.
