Former Education Minister Highlights Education Reform Needs to Curb Youth Migration in Nepal

In a significant development addressing Nepal's youth migration, former Education Minister Govindaraj Joshi has emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in the educational sector. This statement came during his keynote address at the Silver Festival of Tribhuvan Campus, located in Bhanu Municipality, Tanahun, on Wednesday, 6th December 2023.

Joshi pointed out that the lack of expected reforms in education has been a driving force behind the increasing trend of young Nepalese seeking opportunities abroad. He stressed the importance of quality and professional education as essential tools to combat rising unemployment rates, which he sees as a key factor in this migration trend.

Highlighting the economic repercussions, the former minister noted that the migration of young people immediately after completing class 12 poses a significant challenge to the country's foreign currency reserves. He called on the government to prioritize the improvement of the educational sector and the development of professional education programs.

The event also featured discussions from various community leaders and educational figures. Tek Bahadur Gurung, the Chairman of the Campus Management Committee, Balkumari Lohani of BP Bichar Samaj, Bhanu Municipality Chief Anandraj Tripathi, former Chief Udayraj Gauli, and Campus Chief Rabindraraj Joshi contributed their perspectives on this pressing issue.

The Silver Jubilee Festival at Tribhuvan Campus became a platform for these leaders to voice their concerns and suggest solutions. The consensus pointed towards an immediate need for educational reform that aligns with the current professional landscape and meets the aspirations of Nepal's youth.

This event has brought to the forefront the critical role that education plays in shaping the future of the nation's youth and, by extension, its economic stability and growth. The call for action made by former Minister Joshi and other community leaders has resonated across the educational and political spheres, emphasizing the need for urgent and effective reforms in Nepal's educational system.
