After most of the schools in the Kathmandu Valley's urban areas begin to teach in English medium, many parents have not been able to teach in Nepali medium. When the school has been taught in English due to the patriotic interest, some parents complain that they did not want to teach in Nepali medium. In a Kathmandu valley, some schools had started teaching in English for a decade ago. Schools starting from the lower class are teaching up to grade 10 classes in English.
Despite the teaching of the English medium, both the Metropolitan and Municipalities of the valley have not fully implemented. Sitaram Pokhrel, the education officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality, said that many schools would be able to be 'quality education' only when teaching in English. The school emphasizes the importance of teaching on any medium. He said that the school should teach both English and Nepali medium. According to District Education Officer (DEO) Pokharel, most of the community schools in the metropolitan and municipality have started teaching in English. Some schools, which have adequate credibility, have done well through this medium. Some schools have brought new teachers to school to teach them in English medium. Some schools do not even start doing it even if they start it. He said, "There is an illusion that the student increases the number of students while teaching in English medium."
Most of the schools in Kathmandu, like Lalitpur Metropolitan and Municipality, are studying in English medium. All the schools in the middle class are studying in English medium. According to that, there are 202 community schools in the metropolitan municipality and they are studying in English.
