Election Commission of Nepal Instructs Candidates to Submit Election Expenses Details
The Election Commission of Nepal has issued a notification regarding the submission of election expenses details by the candidates who ran for the elections of Members of the House of Representatives and Members of the Provincial Assembly held on Mangsir 4, 2079. According to the notification published on 2080/1/6, it is mandatory for the candidates to submit their election expenses details within 35 days from the date of announcement of the election results.
Candidates Who Fail to Submit Details Must Provide an Explanation
In case the candidates fail to submit their election expenses details within the stipulated time, they are required to provide an explanation for the delay within 7 days. Failure to do so can result in action taken against them under section 26 of the Election Commission Act, 2073.
Publication of Notification Aimed at Ensuring Transparency
The publication of this notification is aimed at ensuring transparency in the election process and preventing any misuse of funds. The Election Commission Act, 2073 mandates political parties, candidates, or their representatives to submit their election expenses details within the prescribed time period.

The Election Commission has also made it clear that the names of the candidates who have failed to submit their election expenses details within the stipulated time will be made public. The details, including the website of the commission, the website of the respective province/district election office, and the notification of the respective office, will be available to the public.

Candidates who fail to submit their election expenses details within the stipulated time must provide a valid explanation for the delay. The Election Commission Act, 2073 allows for an explanation to be submitted within 7 days of the expiry of the prescribed time period.
