Dr. Sanduk Ruit Honors With Prestigious Isa Award

Ophthalmologist Professor Dr. Sanduk Ruit will be honored by the government of Bahrain with a prize amount of one million US dollars. The world-renowned ophthalmologist Dr. who is also the founder of Tilganga Eye Hospital. The Bahraini government has announced that he will be honored with the Isa Award as a token of appreciation for his contribution to humanitarian services.

The selection committee has chosen Dr. Ruit's name from the initial list of 139 names from around the world for the award established by the royal family of Bahrain. For the year 2020-21, the Kingdom of Bahrain has decided to honor Dr. Sanduk Ruit with a gold medal, a letter of appreciation and a prize money for the year 2020-21.

Informing about the award, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the special representative of the King and the chairman of the Isa Award, said that the award will be distributed during a special ceremony to be organized in the month of February at Manama Cultural Center.

Dr. Ruit, who has performed successful eye surgery on the largest number of people in the world, produced the cheapest cataract lens in the world and has been conducting eye surgery camps even in the most difficult and remote areas, is going to give him this international honor.

Who is Sanduk Ruit?

Sanduk Ruit is a Nepali ophthalmologist who is known for his work in treating and preventing blindness in developing countries. He is the co-founder and director of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Kathmandu, Nepal, which is a leading center for the production of low-cost intraocular lenses used in cataract surgery. He has also helped to establish eye care programs in Bhutan, Myanmar, and Tibet. Dr. Ruit has received several international awards for his work, including the Fred Hollows Foundation Humanitarian Award and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership.
