Dhorpatan Valley Schools Reopen After Month-Long Winter Break
Schools in Baglung's Dhorpatan Municipality-9, Dhorpatan Valley, have resumed operations after being closed for about a month due to extreme cold weather. The schools, including Vikas Basic School, Sallathan Primary School, Dhorpatan Durgam Primary School, Baljyoti Primary School, and Siddhathan Primary School, were reopened bwhen students returned to Dhorpatan with the onset of the summer season.
During the winter season, the schools were forced to close, and students had to go down to Adhikarichaur, Bowang, Burtiwang to escape the cold. However, after the beginning of February, the students returned to Dhor area, enabling the schools to reopen.
It is worth noting that schools in Dhorpatan Valley do not have winter holidays in June and July. As per the Assistant Head of Primary School of Dhorpatan Municipality Education Branch, Gyanendra Sapkota, these schools will take winter vacation after the cold weather, unlike other schools in the region that close for the winter.
The school management committee decides to close the schools after the end of the half-yearly examination. Due to the long winter holidays, schools are regularly closed during Barkha, for a week during Dashain, and only for five days during Tihar. Meanwhile, Janwadi Ghumti School in Dhor area conducts regular teaching in Bowang during the winter season, with classes held in the valley area during the summer season.
Overall, the reopening of schools in Dhorpatan Valley after the winter break is a positive development, allowing students to continue with their studies. The region's unique academic schedule, with winter vacation scheduled after the cold weather, offers a distinct approach to education.
