Demands for Increased State Investment in Community Campuses

In a recent discussion program held on the eve of the upcoming 15th National Convention of Nepal Public Campus Association, it was emphasized that the state should increase the investment for community campuses run by the people. The participants demanded that public universities should be established at provincial and central levels for the operation of these campuses.

Policy of Affiliation to Community Campuses

Mahaprasad Hadkhale, Gandaki Province coordinator of the association and Campus Chief of Tanahun's Adikavi Bhanubhakta Campus, suggested that a policy of affiliation should be introduced for community campuses, which occupy one-third of higher education. The aim is to provide opportunities for conducting higher education programs according to technical and market demands, and to stop the tendency of students to migrate abroad or drop out of classes in the field of higher education.

Current Status of Educational Institutions in Nepal

Currently, there are 1,440 educational institutions providing higher education in Nepal, including 150 private, 537 community, and 753 public institutions. Tribhuvan University alone has 1,144 campuses, out of which 61 are private, 528 are community, and 524 are public colleges.

Importance of Education for Producing Competitive Manpower

Dr. Raghu Mainali, Head of Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Madan Bhandari Memorial College, highlighted that the political leadership should give priority to education to produce competitive manpower in the world market by focusing on study, research, facts, and logic.

Media Should Give More Coverage to Community Campuses

Prakash Silwal, president of the Education Journalists Association, emphasized that the media should give more space to the problems and good practices of community campuses. Community campuses can be an alternative for common students, and it is essential to highlight their role in providing quality education.

Upcoming 15th National Convention of Nepal Public Campus Association

The 15th National Convention of Nepal Public Campus Association will be held in Kirtipur on 24th and 25th of Chaitra, 2079. Coordinator Hadkhale informed that an initiative is being taken to demonstrate the unity of community campuses by selecting the leadership in the convention.
