June 12, 2020, Kathmandu | With the government's decision not to take the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) this year, interest in Class 11 and Class 12 examinations has increased. Some are arguing that grading is based on internal evaluation like SEE.
However, experts say that the Class 12 exam will not be like the SEE. Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel also stressed on the need to conduct the Class 12 examination by adapting it as it is the final examination at the school level.
According to an under-secretary in the Ministry of Education, if the Corona epidemic does not subside, there will be no class 11 examination.
He informed me that he is having detailed discussions with the stakeholders about the Class 11 and 12 examinations. Minister Pokharel says, "I am discussing the exam so that a decision can be made as soon as possible."
Pokharel says he is serious about the confusion faced by students and parents during the lockdown.
Provision has been made in the Education Act for the National Examination Board to conduct the Class 12 examination. The law itself needs to be amended to make another decision about the exam.
Class 11 exam may not be conducted:
There is no mandatory provision in the Education Act for the National Examination Board to conduct the Class 11 examination. This means that the school can take the class 11 exam itself. There is no need to change the law for that.
Educationist Dr. Vidyanath Koirala says that it is legally wrong to take the annual examination center of class 11. He says, "During such an epidemic, it is advisable not to take the exam which is not provided for in the law."
He suggested that the class 11 examination should be conducted by the school forever.
According to an under-secretary in the Ministry of Education, if the Corona epidemic does not subside, there will be no class 11 examination. "We are discussing whether to move the Class 11 exams as well," he said.
