31 Teachers in Gulmi's Kaligandaki Rural Municipality Haven't Received Salary Since October 2022
In recent news, it has been reported that 31 teachers hired by the Kaligandaki Rural Municipality to provide education to children at the kindergarten to secondary level have not received their salaries since October 2022. This has caused a significant uproar among the teachers who are having difficulty meeting their daily expenses.
Reason for Non-payment of Salaries
Agnidhar Parajuli, the head of the education branch, has cited the lack of budget as the reason behind the non-payment of salaries to the teachers. The rural municipality needs 39 lakhs to provide salaries to the teachers for the months from October to January. However, due to budget constraints, they were unable to provide the salaries, causing a great deal of distress among the teachers.
Impact on Teachers
The teachers who have not received their salaries are facing a challenging time as they are finding it hard to make ends meet. Many of them have complained about the difficulties they are facing in meeting their daily expenses. The non-payment of salaries has become a significant cause of concern for the teachers, and they have urged the rural municipality to take immediate action.
Financial Support and Dismissal of Teachers
The budget was initially arranged to provide salaries to the teachers through the financial support of the municipality's internal resources and the Kaligand hydropower project. However, due to the lack of support from the project, the salaries could not be paid. The chairman of the Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Bed Bahadur Thapa, has mentioned that if they do not receive the necessary support, they will have no other option but to dismiss the teachers who are not receiving support from the project with respect, as the municipality does not have the basis to manage the resources.
