On Friday 3rd June 2022, British mountaineer Adriana Brownlee visited The British Model College (BMC), a partner institute of The British College (TBC), to give an inspiring talk to the A Level students.

At just 21 years old, Adrinana is on a mission to become the youngest climber of all time to summit all 14 of the world's highest peaks. When speaking to the students she explained that it was her dad who first encouraged her to begin trekking when she was just eight years old and as a result, she ended up breaking records within the community before she reached ten.

Along with a host of other mountaineering missions, Everest was on her list - and she ended up summiting it with Nim’s Dai, the Nepali mountaineer who recently broke a world record by completing all 14 8000m peaks in just six months, and made the successfully Netflix documentary, 14 Peaks, about the experience.

Brownlee says that it was Nim’s who encouraged her to begin her mission to be the youngest trekker to summit the 8000’s and as a result, she is now halfway there! She has already completed seven of them and on the 12th of June is traveling to Pakistan to begin the second half of her mission and climb Nanga Parbat, K2, and Broad Peak - with the aim of completing the remaining four by next summer.

She said of her talk at BMC, “Apart from climbing around the world, getting to meet and be surrounded by people who can be inspired by my story is what motivates me even more. Today at the British Model College, talking about my passion, I was thrown back to when I was in A levels, and the excitement I felt for the future. I was just on the cusp of beginning my mountaineering project. I hope that all the students today got just 1% more excited about their own futures and I am so thankful they can now be part of my 14 peaks journey”.

The students were all inspired by her passion and dedication and following the question and answer session, wished her the best of luck with the rest of her mission.
