Adarsh Secondary School in Parasi of Nawalparasi Closed for Two Days After Continuous Increase in Student Fainting, Suspected to be Mass Hysteria, Health Workers Mobilized for Counseling Teachers and Parents
Adarsh Secondary School located in Parasi of Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta West) has been closed for two days due to the sudden increase in student fainting. The school principal, Deepak Bhattarai, informed that the fainting issue was prevalent in girls studying in the school from class 6 to 9, and on 26th February 2023, six girls fainted during school assembly.
The situation escalated on 27th February 2023, when ten more girls fainted as the school was about to start, leading them to be sent to Prithvichandra Hospital for treatment. With the cause of fainting still unknown, the school decided to close for two days in coordination with the municipality to prevent further infection among students.
According to Dr. Mohammad Nurul Hoda, ten girls are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and the number may increase. Dr. Hoda suspects that this could be mass hysteria and has suggested that it will be studied at the school.
Since mass hysteria is usually linked to mental problems, health workers have been mobilized to counsel school teachers and parents. The situation at Adarsh Secondary School is still being monitored closely, and further updates will be provided in due course.
This is a worrying incident, and we hope that the girls affected by the fainting spells recover quickly. It is essential to determine the cause of the fainting to prevent it from happening in the future. We urge parents, teachers, and health workers to work together to ensure the well-being of all students.
