
Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU).
From among the three individuals recommended by the chairperson and two members of the search and recommendation committee formed to select a new Vice Chancellor for the vacant post at the university, Dr. Wagle has been appointed by Prime Minister and Chancellor KP Sharma Oli today, in accordance with Clause 13(4) of the Kathmandu University Act, 2048 (1991).
A committee comprising Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Dr. Arjun Karki, and Janardan Nepal had been formed for the selection of the Vice Chancellor. The tenure of former Vice Chancellor Dr. Bhola Thapa had ended on Magh 6, 2081 B.S.
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Dr. Wagle, was born in 2025 B.S. in Banepa Municipality, Kavrepalanchok. He was serving as the Acting Vice Chancellor and Registrar of Kathmandu University.
He has previously worked as the Assistant Dean at the School of Management, Head of the Department of Science at the same school, and Adjunct Professor at Kathmandu University.
Dr. Wagle holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, an M.Sc. from the University of Birmingham, UK, and an M.A. from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
Dr. Wagle, a regular columnist in national newspapers, has also served as Press Advisor to the Prime Minister and Advisor to the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. He has been actively involved in research on subjects such as business, environment, regional economy, fiscal federalism, and entrepreneurship.
The tenure of the Vice Chancellor will be four years.
