6th National Yoga Day Celebrated in Nepal:

National Yoga Day is being celebrated with various programs across the country under the slogan 'Let's do yoga, Covid goes away'. The meeting of the Council of Ministers on 28 Shrawan 2072 BS formally decided to celebrate the National Yoga Day on 1 Magh and handed over the responsibility of coordinating it to the Ministry of Education. Earlier, World Yoga Day was celebrated in Nepal in 2036 BS with the participation of organizations working in the field of yoga under the auspices of Dr. Hari Prasad Pokhrel.

In the Vedic period, the yoga practiced by sages in the foothills of the Himalayas was almost extinct in Nepal. The work of raising public awareness has been started by declaring a day for renaissance from this area. In ancient times, mental peace and stability, and health were achieved through yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda. Nepalis who have forgotten about it under the influence of the modern age have started to be attracted towards yoga as it is being used more and more for treatment and happiness in Europe and America.

Kshitij Barakoti, president of the Postgraduate Yoga Science Association of Nepal, who is involved in the field of yoga and Ayurveda, believes that the field of yoga and Ayurveda will be developed in Nepal after the celebration of Yoga Day. Formal studies of yoga and naturopathy are being taught in Nepal at Valmiki Vidyapeeth of Nepal Sanskrit University. The entrants are given six months of yoga and naturopathic training. Dr. Pokharel, head of the yoga and naturopathy department of the school, says that those who have graduated in any subject have been approved for a two-year post-graduate course in oriental health education. He said that it was not possible to start studies from this academic session due to Corona. Preference will be given to those who have graduated in the field of health, but as they have completed graduation in any subject, they will be able to participate in the post-graduate class.

Although the Curriculum Development Center has been teaching yoga, naturopathy, and Ayurveda as subjects of interest in classes 9 and 10 since 2051 BS, it has not been able to start due to a lack of graduates in this field. The main function committee has been formed under the coordination of Education, Science, and Technology Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha to celebrate the sixth National Yoga Day. It is stated that more than 100 organizations are participating in the committee.

What is Yoga?

In simple language, yoga is about connecting the mind with the body. Yoga is to connect the mind with the soul. Yoga is sadhana. Yoga is believed to have originated from the Sanskrit word 'use'. Use means 'join' or 'combine'. Yoga is about establishing harmony between body, mind, and soul through yogic actions.

Practicing conscience, controlling the conflict of the mind, self-realization is yoga. We all have a soul inside man. Yoga is to unite the same soul with God.

There are 8.4 million kinds of life in the world. At the time the souls were created, the souls went into the body, into bondage. Therefore, human life is the only means by which all those bonds can be broken and the soul can be taken to salvation. The soul is surrounded by the disorder of karma. In such a case, yoga is the only means of removing the disorder and opening the soul.

The open soul merges with the divine. That is the purpose of life. Therefore, the birth of a human being out of 8.4 million is a great opportunity. The purpose of human life is to go to meditation through yoga and to remove the disorders around the soul and to have an interview with God. So yoga is to connect.

People do yoga regularly to keep the body healthy and get rid of many diseases. People are also using yoga to diagnose anxiety, mental and other ailments. Yoga emerged as a scientific discipline that could be used to prevent disease. Many times more important than this is the spiritual side of yoga. The main goal of yoga is to understand and assimilate the philosophy of Brahman and the totality of the universe in every living being. There are chapters on yoga and sadhana in Hindu scriptures. Yoga has appeared in the Himalayas and the adjoining areas.

 Types of yoga?

Hatha Yoga and Ashta Yoga are very popular in physical exercises. In which many asanas and pranayamas are explained. Which purifies the body and mind and leads to meditation.

In the Bhagavad Gita, 18 types of yoga are explained. Each of the 18 chapters in the Gita is dedicated to yoga. Therefore, only 18 yogas are mentioned in the Gita. It is said that there are thousands of Upanishads now.

Only 218 Upanishads are in written evidence. Thirty-two Upanishads have explained yoga. Therefore, the common man knows Ashtanga Yoga, Gyan Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Sannyasa Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Karmasanyasa Yoga. But the yoga that people know now in our society is Asana Yoga.

But this is not really yoga. There are eight limbs in Ashtanga Yoga. Yama, Social Discipline Rules Personal Discipline Asana Physical Discipline Pranayama Controlling the life force is another. Withdrawal that prevents the senses in our body from going out. Who can keep our minds inside? Another is Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. This is Ashtanga Yoga. In modern society, yoga is an asana performed in the morning or in the evening at home or in a yoga school.
