Prime Minister and Chancellor of Kathmandu University, KP Sharma Oli, stated that a person's worth cannot be judged solely by their education and certificates. On Saturday, December 14th, 2024, he made this remark while addressing the 30th Convocation Ceremony of Kathmandu University (KU).
Prime Minister Oli emphasized that a person is recognized not only by their education and certificates but also by their speech, behavior, and conduct. He said, "Having education and certificates alone does not make one a good person. To be a good person, one's speech, behavior, and conduct must be good. Such a person becomes beloved by all. Students should keep this in mind."
He advised students to present the expertise they have gained in a manner that upholds the prestige and dignity of the university. He mentioned that learning is a lifelong process and cannot be completed in a few years or at any level. "A person's learning continues until they die. The work of learning goes on as long as one lives," he added. "People should advance themselves practically."
He also mentioned that education should provide employment and create employment opportunities. He highlighted that due to climate change and other factors, Nepal's mountains are turning into black rocks and that the government is working towards environmental justice. He acknowledged the significant contribution KU has made to Nepal's education sector since its establishment.
During the ceremony, Professor Dr. TN Singh, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, mentioned the excellent relationship between India and Nepal. He stated that there is an agreement between the Indian Institute of Technology and KU for educational programs. He urged students to apply the skills they have learned in practice.
The program mentioned that the university's Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Bhola Thapa, has been advancing various new programs on time. During the ceremony, 1,256 students from the School of Arts, Education, Management, Engineering, Medical Sciences, and Science were conferred degrees.
