Overview
Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality (वारागुङ मुक्तिक्षेत्र गाउँपालिका) was established in 2017 (2073 BS) as a local government of Nepal. The office of the Barhagaun Muktichhetra Gaumpalika is located in Kagbeni, Mustang district, Gandaki Pradesh of Nepal. Rural Municipality is known as Gaupalika in the Nepali Language.
This Gaunpalika is situated in the southern part of the Mustang district, surrounded by Dalome Gaunpalika on the north, Gharpajhong and Thasang rural municipality on the south, Manang District on the east, and Dolpa District on the west, the north-southern border of this rural municipality touch border with Myagdi District.
The total area of the Baragung Muktichhetra Gaunpalika is 885.78 square kilometers (342.00 sq mi) and the total population of the rural municipality according to 2011 (2068 BS) Nepal census is 2,330 individuals. This rural municipality is divided into 5 wards. The admin center of this rural municipality is at Kagbeni.
Chhusang, Kagbeni, Jhong, and Muktinath Village development committees (VDCs) were included while established Barhagaun Muktichhetra's rural municipality. This rural municipality came into existence on 10 March 2017 (Falgun 27, 2073 BS), fulfilling the requirement of the new Constitution of Nepal 2015 (2072 BS), Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) replaced all old VDCs and Municipalities into 753 new local level bodies.
Varagung Muktichhetra Gaunpalika was named Bahrachhetra Muktinath at the time of the establishment of this rural municipality. This rural municipality had to named Baragung Muktichhetra' but by mistake, it spelled to Bahragaun Muktichhetra, so in the first meeting of this rural council (Gaunpalika Assembly) on 17 July 2017.
