Overview
Shailung Rural Municipality (शैलुङ्ग गाउँपालिका, दोलखा) is spread over an area of 128.67 sq km, which is historical, religious, cultural, and tourist importance in the Dolakha district. The village is named after Mount Shailung, known as the center of faith for Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and non-Buddhists. There are various legends about Sailung among the locals. The mountain was formerly known as Sangelung, as the first Buddha, Sange Mahamorche imparted knowledge. Later, he went to live in Shillong.
It is made up of Tamchet Dudhpokhari, Bhushapheda, Katakuti, Shailungeshwari, Magapowa, and Fusku VDCs of Shailung Gaupalika Savik. Shailung Municipality is bounded on the east by Bhimeshwar Municipality, Baiteshwar Rural Municipality, and Tamakoshi Rural Municipality and on the west by Sindhupalchok and Ramechhap districts. Bhimeshwar Municipality and Sindhupalchok District are in the north and Melung Rural Municipality and Ramechhap District are in the south.
Shailung village municipality is divided into eight wards. Tamchet Dudhpokhari (1-9) of Savik has been shifted to Ward No. 1, Bhushapheda VDC of Savik. (1-9) to Ward No. 2, Katakuti VDC of Savik. (1,2,8,9 and Magapowwa 1) to ward no. 3, Savik's Magapowa VDC. (2-9) to Ward No. 4, Katakuti VDC of Savik. (3-7) to Ward No. 5, Savik's Fusku VDC (6-9) to Ward No. 6, Savik's Fusku (1,2,3,4,5) to Ward No. 7, and Savik's Shailungeshwari The ward (1-9) have been divided into ward no 8.
