Overview
Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBSL) was established in 2018 AD (2075 BS) as a public limited company that received an operating license from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) as D class financial institution to operate under Bank and Financial Institution Act, 2073. Its Central Office is located in Sanga-13, Kavre, Bagmati Pradesh and the working area is all districts of Nepal. MLBSL provides customer-friendly microfinance (Laghubitta) services in rural areas as well as some urban areas of Nepal for the poorest people.
Emergence and Background
Mahila Lagubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBSL) is an initiative of a group of visionary people working together for women empowerment in various ways. The Program in micro-credit banking before was registered as an NGO in the name “Centre for Women Rights and Development (CWRD)”.
Centre for Women Rights and Development (CWRD)
It was established in 1992 AD as a micro-finance non-governmental organization (MFI/NGO). It has been implementing micro-finance programs since 2001 AD obtaining a license from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). It was initially started with the objective of working for the civil, socio-cultural, and other fundamental rights of women.
The rationale behind the inception of CWRD is that the basic problems of wide-scale and deep-rooted poverty and resultant socio-economic backwardness cannot be addressed through the efforts of the government alone, complementary and supplementary initiation and efforts should come from non-governmental organizations as well.
Towards this, CWRD has been executing development projects and micro-finance programs intended for the benefit of the poor and disadvantaged families especially women, which we aim to intensify further through newer programs and implementations through Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBSL).
Now, after obtaining a license from the Nepal Rastra Bank (Central bank of Nepal), all the assets & liabilities of CWRD’s & microfinance program have been transferred to Mahila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBSL).
MLBSL is exploring and initiating women empowerment for both; socio-cultural as well as economic independence of women. With the establishment of MLBSL, its micro-credit program will help women secure and utilize loans for various purposes. Saving habits, health insurance policies will help women learn the ways to be economically independent and secure.
