As a result of the historic people's movement, armed struggle, sacrifice and self-sacrifice of the Nepali people for democracy and progressive change, the state government has been formed through a referendum by making constitutional provision at the state level as an important part of the established federal democratic republican system of governance. According to the said constitutional provision, the provincial government of Gandaki, which extends between Budhigandaki and Kaligandaki in the central part of Nepal and to India in the north, China, and the south, is the elected government as an allied structure from 2074 Falgun 4.

The political leadership of this office, which is working towards enhancing the living standard of the citizens of the state through peace and order development and good governance in accordance with the responsibilities given by the constitution and the expectations of the citizens, will be headed by the Chief Minister.
The Provincial Government (Division of Duties) Rules, 2074 has defined the functions and responsibilities of this office.
This office is in charge of formulating laws and regulations required for the operation of the state government, conducting planned development programs, coordinating with the Government of Nepal and the local level, and exchanging assistance, managing the issues to be submitted to the Council of Ministers, monitoring and evaluating administrative activities.
