Thirteenth National Library Day to be celebrated Virtually:
Due to the ongoing lockdown for the corona epidemic and prevention, this year's 13th National Library Day will be celebrated virtually with the motto 'Library for Social Transformation'.
Although schools and libraries have been closed since 5th Chaitra 2076 due to health risks, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology is going to celebrate this year's day online while the digital system and self-study are in progress.
National Library Day has been celebrated in Nepal every year since 2065 BS to commemorate the establishment of Book Tahbil on 15th Bhadra 1869 BS during the reign of King Girwan Bikram Shah.
King Girwanyuddha issued a letter of intent to manage the books in the Basantapur palace and handed it over to Pandit Kedarnath Jha. According to Yadav Chandra Niraula, head of the library branch of the ministry, the challenges in the field of library and reading will be discussed in the presence of Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel on Monday.
On the eve of the day, various such dialogues were held even today. According to Niraula, there are about 700 community and public libraries in Nepal at present.
Other libraries are also run institutionally. Former Minister and Library Campaigner Ganesh Shah urged to provide proper place and building to the National Library in Pulchowk, which was damaged after the earthquake, as it would be the pride of any nation.
The decision to relocate the library to the then examination control office of the Tribhuvan University in Jamal has not been implemented yet. He said that the state and local governments should bring budget and programs for public library services and schools should pay equal attention to it.
Member Secretary of Nepal Pragya-Pratishthan Prof. Jagat Prasad Upadhyaya informed that the library of the academy has been gradually digitized. Tribhuvan University (TU) has been teaching postgraduate studies in library and information science. Currently, the concept of e-library has also come up.
