The Hult Prize at The British College On-Campus Finals: Celebrating Innovation in Recycled Fashion

The Hult Prize, one of the world's largest student competitions for social entrepreneurship, recently held its on-campus finals at The British College in Kathmandu, Nepal. The event, which took place on February 17th, saw teams of aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their innovative ideas related to this year's theme - Recycled Fashion. Here are the key highlights of the event:

The Competition

The participating teams presented their business ideas to a panel of judges, with hundreds of guests in attendance, including representatives from the gifting sponsors Chocoffle Nepal, Frenzie Fries, Lumu Wear, Juli Finds, and celebration partner Ug Cakes. The winners of the on-campus finals were Team Makhmal, with Team Zero and Team Nyano as the runners-up.

The Prize

As the winners, Team Makhmal will now be invited to the Regional Summit happening in Mumbai, where they'll compete against other teams from all over the world. The Hult Prize is a highly prestigious competition, with past winners going on to launch successful businesses and receive global recognition.

The Workshops and Talks

Leading up to the finals, The British College held a series of workshops and talks from members of the Hult Prize, including Judge, Mentor, and Global Expert, Mr. Michael Schuring, and Regional Specialist for Central and South Asia, Ms. Richa Shah. The sessions provided valuable insights and mentorship to the participating teams and covered a range of topics related to social entrepreneurship, innovation, and recycled fashion.

The Experts

The workshops also featured talks from experts in the field of recycled fashion, including the Program Director at Global Peace Foundation Nepal and Country Leader at Global Peace Women Nepal, Ms. Bambie Gadon Panta; Co-founder of ACT360 Digital Marketing, Mr. Tenzing Samdup; Co-Managing Partner of Rekriti Upcycled Fashion, Mr. Himanshu Shrestha; CEO of Nepal Realistic Solution Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Roshan Shrestha; CEO/Co-Founder of Makkusé and 2019 Miss World Nepal, Ms. Anushka Shrestha; and Founder/ Designer of Nhu Designs and Co-founder at Abir Designer's Hub, Ms. Rashmi Tandukar. These experts shared their experiences and provided guidance to the aspiring entrepreneurs.

The Mentors

In addition to the external experts, members of The British College also provided mentorship and guidance to the participating teams. This included the Creative Head, Mr. Siddhanta Pudasaini; Head of the School of Business, Ms. Sunita Basnet; PGBM Programme Leader, Ms. Nishtha Rajbhandari; and the Founder and Managing Director of Happy Minds, Ms. Shreeya Giri, who represented the SWCU centre at the College.

Overall, The Hult Prize at The British College On-Campus Finals provided an excellent platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative ideas in recycled fashion and receive valuable mentorship and guidance from experts in the field.
