On 9th September, The British College held the Graduation Ceremony 2022 at The Hyatt Regency Hotel, to celebrate the conferment of awards for Leeds Beckett University (LBU) and The University of the West of England (UWE).
This year the College welcomed more graduates than ever before, with a total of 415 and as such hosted two ceremonies with Business students graduating in the morning and IT students graduating in the afternoon.
Distinguished guests from Nepal and the UK were in attendance, the Business Pursuit Manager for the British Council, Christina Kansakar; the Head of International Partnerships, Patricia Voaden; UWE Country Manager for Nepal, Sujan Ghimire; the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academics, Phil Cardew; LBU Regional Head for South Asia, Jayashree Raghuram.
Joining them were some of the Advisors to the College, including Paul Cleves, Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Michael Rutland, Dr. (H.C.) and Chiran Thapa; two Industry Advisory Board members, Tim Gocher and Siddhant Raj Pandey - and a member of the British Education Group's Board of Directors, Isabelle Onions. In addition, the Executive Principal, Mary Bishop, and long-standing Advisor to TBC, The Earl of Sandwich, sent special video messages.
Mahendra Kandel, Executive Director of the British College began the ceremony by lighting the Panas. When asked about the ceremony he said, "Whether you have traveled overseas, supported us from within Nepal, or joined us via video link - I would like to thank all of the distinguished guests who came and made the day such a great success".
Rajen Kandel, CEO and Founder of the College, then opened the event with a welcome speech and congratulated all of the graduates who celebrated their achievements this year. Each one succeeded in their studies through the pandemic and are now receiving a degree from a British Accreditation Council-approved College.
Special guests then delivered inspiring speeches and representatives from the partner British universities presented the awards. A number of graduates also gave speeches, including Ruby Shah, BBA student and the winner of the Zonta International JMK Women in Business Scholarship award. Student Excellence awards were also awarded to Rakshya Lama Moktan from BSc (Hons) Computing and Aayush Shrestha from BBA.
Arun Joshi, Associate Dean of Academics, said of the occasion, “Seeing award-winning students take to the stage today truly shows how well our graduates have done and reflects what a great team we have here. I would like to thank all the staff and faculty who helped our Students to get here, and who have helped to make the day such a wonderful occasion”.
