Nepal Astronomical Society has begun preparations for the 7th edition of the national level Astronomy Olympiad, which has been in operation since 2014, to be held in 2020.
According to Suresh Bhattarai, the president of the Society, the five science teachers from all over the country have left for the 'Astronomy Olympiad Exposure Camp' to be held at the Homi Bhabha Science Education Center in Mumbai, India from Kartik 19 to 22.
From Kartik 19 to Kartik 22, there has been a public call for the application of the program logo.
Olympiad is a national level introductory talent recognition educational program operating in Nepal since 2014. From 2014 to 2018, students from Class 11 and 12 participated in the competition. Since 2019, the atmosphere for students in grades 9 and 10 has also been created.
For the first phase of the three-phase Olympiad, at least one test center will be established in all seven provinces of Nepal. Likewise, students selected from the first phase will be able to participate in the second phase at home. Bhattarai, president of the society, said that if there is a choice for the third phase, he should come to Kathmandu. Students who perform best in the third phase (closed camp), which will be conducted in Kathmandu, are invited to participate in international level programs.
Nepal recently won a bronze medal at the 24th International Astronomy Olympiad in Romania. In the 10th and 11th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad operated in 2016 and 2017, the 'Unravel Mansion' was obtained. Nepal received the 'Special Award' at the 23rd International Astronomy Olympiad.
Application of the Seventh Olympiad The seventh Olympiad application will be opened soon through the website, the Society said.
The competing students will have the opportunity to participate in the '25th International Astronomy Olympiad 'to be held in the European nation of Italy in 2020 and the 14th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in the South American nation of Colombia.
