The 'National Youth Conference on Science, Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship' organized by the National Youth Council has started today. The conference, which started with the participation of 400 young scientists, aims to connect the youth with study, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Executive Vice President of the Council Madhav Prasad Dhungel said that the conference was organized to link research in the field of science and technology with youth entrepreneurship.
Similarly, the suggestions received from the conference are believed to help the government in formulating science and technology policy.
Dhungel said that the conference was organized to make information, technology, and science students research-oriented. According to him, a new promotion center will also be set up in the state to bring out the talents of the youth.
Addressing the inaugural session on Sunday, Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Ram Prasad Thapaliya said that a program would be launched at the school level to attract students in science and technology.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Prof. Dr. Dharmakanta Banstola said that Nepal's education was weak in research and innovation. He stressed the need for the government to increase the budget for higher education.
He said that the youth can be made self-employed if there is research and innovation in higher education. He is confident that this conference will provide an opportunity for the youth to create new entrepreneurs.
Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Dr. Sunil Babu Shrestha stressed the need to link science and technology towards solving the problems of society. It is said that return can be obtained by investing in science and technology.
Similarly, Kathmandu University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhola Thapa said that what is learned from science should be linked to entrepreneurship. At the conference, students studying at the postgraduate level will be informed about the research done by young scientists.
Similarly, researchers will present working papers on four topics including science, technology, education, and health. The council has stated that the conference will continue till Monday.
