Nepal Telecom Celebrate 17th Anniversary:
In order to make the telecommunication sector open and competitive and provide all-accessible and reliable telecommunication services across the country, Nepal Telecommunication Corporation has been transformed into Nepal Telecommunication Company Limited under the then Companies Act 2053 BS. After becoming a company, this company has been conducting its business activities by introducing itself under the name of "Nepal Telecom".
Telecommunication service has been started in the country since 1973 BS with Open Wire Magneto System. Since 1974 BS, the public has been able to use the telephone. After the establishment of the telephone head office in 1991 BS, telecommunication services have been available in private homes only since 1992.
In 2016 BS, the All India Radio Head Office and the Telephone Head Office were merged into one place and a 'Department of Communication' was established under the Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Communications. This department was transformed into the Telecommunication Committee on Kartik 20, 2026 BS and was transformed into the Nepal Telecommunication Corporation on June 20, 2032 BS.
Nepal Telecommunication Company Limited has established on 22 Magh 2060 BS. This corporation, which is wholly owned by the Government of Nepal, was transformed into Nepal Bursanchar Company Limited on 1 Baishakh 2061 BS.
As per the policy of the Government of Nepal to reduce the ownership of this company, 5 percent shares have been sold to the employees working in the company and about 3.5 percent shares have been sold to the public.
