Underground distribution line, 400 volt line of 1894 circuit km, and 400-volt underground distribution line of 1117 circuit km are being constructed. In addition, construction of a 33/11 KV substation of 8 MVA has been completed while 33 KV, 11 KV substation has been completed. The construction of 105 km, 172 km and 400 km lines of 400 voltage level has been completed respectively.
Projects under construction:
132 KV, 220 KV from the authority. And 400 K.V. With a capacity of 1031 circuit kilometers, 1165 circuit kilometers, and 756 circuit kilometers, a total of 2942 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and 9,200 mA capacity grid substations are being constructed.
An automatic substation system is being installed in 13 grid substations of the Kathmandu Valley to be completed in the current fiscal year.
To develop the infrastructure of the transmission system in the country, 1900 circuit km. More than 400 KV The consultant is conducting detailed engineering and environmental study of the transmission line and 290 circuit kilometers 132 kV transmission line. Similarly, the consultant is also studying the transmission lines and substations required to provide sufficient electricity in the major cities of the country for the next 30 years.
Subsidiaries of the Authority:
Through various subsidiaries of NEA, 111 MW Rasuwagadhi, 102 MW Madhya Bhotekoshi, 42.5 MW Sanjen, 14.8 MW Upper Sanjen, 140 MW Tanahu Reservoir, 37 MW Upper Trishuli D, 40 MW Rahughat, 1060 MW Upper Arunwa, and 30 MW Khola, 99.8 MW Tamakoshi V, 635 MW Dudhkoshi reservoir, 42 MW Upper Modi A and 19.8 MW Upper Modi B, 828 MW Uttarganga reservoir hydropower projects are under study and construction.
Private Sector Participation:
108 projects of 814 MW have come into operation while 138 projects of 3506 MW are under construction. So far, NEA has signed power purchase agreements with the private sector for 345 projects worth a total of 6172 MW.
Inland electricity trade:
NEA has for the first time participated in India's daily open electricity market. The first 400 KV between Nepal and India. After the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur interstate transmission line was charged at 400 KV on November 11, 2020, the way has been paved for import and export of electricity through Indian Energy Exchange.
NEA has imported 2806 gigawatt-hours of electricity from the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line and other points bordering India in the fiscal year 2077/78, while Nepal has exported a total of 44 gigawatt-hours of electricity.
Future direction:
As the white paper-2075 issued by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation clearly mentions the roadmap for the coming decade, it will be considered as the main document, and the future activities of NEA will be taken forward.
NEA will be restructured in a way that all stakeholders and employees take ownership and also ensure the services, facilities, pensions, allowances, etc. of the employees.
In order to achieve the long-term goal of NEA, the Institutional Development Plan issued with the objective of conducting the overall work in an integrated and systematic manner will be implemented with priority.
Excellent service will be provided to the customers by reducing the operation cost from the system monitoring, control and management of the system from power generation to distribution.
Market management for the sale of electricity generated from various projects including the 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project has been challenging. Appropriate steps will be taken by analyzing the market to consume the produced electricity in the country and to sell the surplus electricity in the inland market.
Increasing the consumption of electricity in the country will not only use the electricity produced but also have a positive impact on the economic and social development of the country. Accordingly, works including raising public awareness will be carried out effectively. As the demand and consumption of electricity need to be expanded and strengthened along with the distribution system, this work will be taken forward with priority.
In line with the long-term goal of trading electricity through power purchase and sale agreements with regional, sub-regional and neighboring countries, the construction of infrastructure will be given priority. Butwal-Gorakhpur 400 K.V. As per the agreement reached between NEA and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, India for the construction of the inland transmission line, the necessary process for construction of the line will be expedited. Raatmate - Kerung 400 K.V. The study work including detailed design for construction of transmission line will be expedited.
The process of construction of 99.8 MW Tamakoshi V, 635 MW Dudhkoshi Reservoir, 210 MW Chainpur Seti, 1060 MW Upper Arun Hydropower Project will be taken forward as soon as possible.
NEA will carry out necessary works to fulfill the goal of the Government of Nepal to restore access to electricity to all the population of the country by the year 2080 BS. In coordination with various local levels of the country, the work of installing automatic street lights to keep the city bright will be taken forward nationwide. Started as a pilot project at Ratna Park and Maharajgunj Distribution Center
The existing smart meter connection work will be expanded in the current Fiscal Year as well as outside the Kathmandu Valley.
Optical fiber in the transmission and distribution system of the Nepal Electricity Authority will be used commercially. In order to modernize the distribution system while maintaining urban beauty, underground distribution lines will be constructed in major cities of the country including Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, and Bharatpur.
All efforts will be focused on building a strong and empowered authority with the goal of providing excellent service to the consumers while maintaining good corporate governance, transparency, and accountability.
