We Will Rise Foundation Calls for Entries for 'Mero Gaun, Mero Thaun' Documentary Competition 2023
We Will Rise Foundation, a non-profit organization, is conducting a nationwide documentary competition titled 'Mero Gaun, Mero Thaun.' The second edition of the competition for 2023 has been announced and video submissions are now open.
The call for entries started on Friday, and the deadline for video production is 70 days from 2079 Falgun 12 to 21 Baisakh 2080. The winner of the competition will be announced on Jestha 13, 2080, in Kathmandu.
132 documentaries were received with enthusiasm during the first competition in 2019, and video calls were made for the competition in 2020, but the event was postponed due to the worldwide spread of the Covid-19 epidemic.
The competition focuses on villages that have abundant tourism potential but are often overlooked. Documentary makers can submit videos that showcase natural, cultural heritage, costumes, food, art culture, and caste identity of any village in Nepal. The documentaries should not exceed five minutes in length.
The judges will select the best ten entries, and the winners will receive the 'Mero Gaun, Mero Thaun' award and cash prizes.
Nirmal Shrestha, the project coordinator and founding director of We Will Rise Foundation, believes that the competition will play an important role in identifying tourist spots that are overshadowed and making them visible to the world. The program aims to boost the tourism sector, which has weakened due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The competition is open to all contestants, including those who submitted entries in the 2020 competition. Contestants can edit their videos or submit new ones if they deem it necessary.
To participate, contestants can submit their videos through the official website of the foundation www.wwrf.org.np. There is no participation fee for the competition.
In conclusion, We Will Rise Foundation's 'Mero Gaun, Mero Thaun' competition provides an excellent platform for documentary makers to showcase Nepal's natural and cultural heritage to the world. The competition aims to boost the tourism sector, which has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and promote lesser-known tourist spots in Nepal.
