Martyr's Week Being Celebrated from Magh 10:
Martyr's Week is being celebrated from today in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy and civil liberties.
On the first day of the week, a tribute meeting is being held at Teku Kharibot where Shukraraj Shastri was hanged.
Similarly, a tribute meeting will be held at 8 am on Magh 13 at the place where a devotee was hanged on his forehead and at 8 am on Magh 15 at Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand.
On the last day of the week-long program, a Prabhatpheri with a band of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, a march pass, and a buggy with pictures of the martyrs will be held at Shantibatika on Magh 16 and will turn into a tribute rally.
The program to be held in Lainchaur will be attended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, ministers, high-ranking government officials, people's representatives, and others, said Ishwar Man Dangol, spokesperson of the corporation. Martyrs' Week has been celebrated under the coordination of Kathmandu City since 2012 BS.
Demanding democracy, the then Rana ruler sentenced to death Shukraraj Shastri to Kathmandu on 10 Magh, 1997 BS; Dharmabhakta Mathema was sentenced to death in Sifal on 13 Magh 1997 BS and Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand was sentenced to death in Sobhabhagwati on 15 Magh 1997 BS.
