Kathmandu University to Host 25th International MELOW Conference
Kathmandu University is set to host the 25th International MELOW (The Society for the Study of the Multi-Ethnic Literatures of the World) Conference in Dhulikhel, Nepal, from 27 to 29 September 2024. The event will bring together scholars and researchers to explore the theme of “Literature and Landscapes,” delving into the portrayal of landscapes in literature and how literature enhances our understanding of the natural world.
The conference will feature discussions on various sub-themes, including the environment, indigeneity, and spirituality, as well as the representation of forests, fantasies, wilderness, and water bodies in literary works and folk traditions. The sessions will also examine landscapes in terms of aesthetics, identity, and mystery, with an emphasis on how literature interacts with nature.
Approximately 200 delegates, including 110 international and 80 national participants, are expected to attend. In total, 120 research papers will be presented over the three-day event. Keynote addresses will be delivered by Prof. Krishnan Unni from Delhi University and former Vice-Chancellor of Far-Western University, Prof. Amma Raj Joshi. Panel discussions will feature distinguished scholars such as Prof. Krishna Chandra Sharma, Prof. Anand Sharma, Prof. Ram Chandra Poudel, and Prof. Jib Lal Sapkota.
The conference promises to be an enriching platform for intellectual exchange, fostering deeper insights into the relationship between literature and landscapes.
