Educational and political leaders have underscored the need to enhance education in Nepal to prevent the necessity of studying abroad. This was a key focus during the 13th anniversary celebration of GP Koirala Memorial College, established on Asar 18, 2069 BS in honor of the late Girija Prasad Koirala.

Developing a Robust Educational Environment

Stakeholders emphasized the importance of providing high-quality education and a supportive educational environment within Nepal. Bagmati Provincial Assembly member Shriram Lamichhane announced that the establishment of Girija Prasad Koirala University is in its final stages. This university aims to offer necessary subjects to eliminate the need for Nepali students to seek education abroad.

Power for the People

Lamichhane highlighted that governmental changes should benefit the populace and stressed the importance of following the guidance of leaders like Ganeshman Singh and Girija Prasad Koirala. He also emphasized the need to implement effective programs in Nepal, such as "earn while you learn."

Economic Benefits of Local Education

Prof. Dr. Kedar Prasad Rizal, Registrar of Tribhuvan University, stated that retaining Nepali students within the country would save millions of rupees, benefiting the national economy.

Support from Educational Leaders

During the event, various leaders including Bagmati Provincial Assembly member Bina Pokharel Parajuli, Vice-Chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) Bhupendra Basnet, Vice-Chairman of the Campus Management Committee Nhuchhe Narayan Shrestha, and Campus Chief Shiva Prasad Adhikari discussed the college's efforts. They mentioned that GP Koirala Memorial College is aligning its curriculum to meet the needs of students who would otherwise go abroad due to the lack of desired subjects.

Current Academic Programs

The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Humanities, Management, and Education faculties. Professor Raj Kumar Dhungana noted that over three thousand students are currently enrolled at the college.

Conclusion

By focusing on improving the quality of education and creating an encouraging learning environment, Nepal can retain its students and reduce the need for studying abroad. The efforts of institutions like GP Koirala Memorial College and the upcoming Girija Prasad Koirala University are crucial steps toward achieving this goal.
