35th Himalaya-Karakorum-Tibet (HKT) Workshop in Pokhara

35th Himalaya-Karakorum-Tibet (HKT) Workshop has started in Pokhara. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel inaugurated the 35th International Conference organized by the Nepal Geological Society.

The 35th International Conference named Himalaya Karakoram Tibet i.e. HKT Workshop will continue till Kartik 18, 2079 (November 2-4, 2022). In the program, Chief Minister Pokharal said that it is best to organize the conference in a province where the Himalayan region is abundant. He said that organizing the conference in Gandaki would be beneficial in practical terms. He expressed his belief that this conference held in Pokhara, a lake city, will also help in the promotion of tourism here. He said that the provinces will cooperate based on the conclusions and suggestions made by the conference.

Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, said that since there is a problem of land flooding in Pokhara, the conference will find solutions. He said that geologists from all over the world will cooperate with the Nepal Geological Society to find out the problem here and solve it.

Convener Dr. Kaviraj Paudyal informed that the conference was organized with the aim of prosperity and sustainable development of the people. Geologists from 16 countries will participate in the conference. They presented more than 150 working papers and 12 special educational programs. Poudyal said.

He informed that there will be presentations by foreign and domestic geologists about the discovery and identification of minerals in the program as well as their use. Information about how to prevent disasters (landslides), how to be aware, and how to avoid earthquakes, will be given in the program. In the same way, the explosion caused by the glacier, and flood damage will also be discussed.

300 geologists from 16 Himalayan countries including Bhutan, Pakistan, Burma are participating in the conference which started at Pokhara Grand in Pokhara. The President of Nepal Geological Society, Dr. Anantaram Gajurel, informed about the program conference to understand the culture of the Gandaki Province by taking knowledge about its geographical conditions. On the occasion of the program, on-the-spot observation will be conducted up to Kagweni, Gandaki Provincial Coordinator Navraj Neupane said. He informed that a group gathering of geologists, engineers and environmental experts was organized in Pokhara this time to keep the earth balanced.

In the program, Co-convener Basantraj Adhikari informed about the topics to be presented in the technical session. Treasurer Ashish KC made a statement about the financial aspect. Prada Marie Howard, who came from the UK, said that she was happy to participate in the important event in the beautiful city of Pokhara. She expressed her belief that the findings of this conference will be useful not only for Nepal but also for the world.

Dr. Ramkumar Phuyal, a member of the Planning Commission, will conclude the conference. The conference of Nepal Geological Society has already been held twice in Kathmandu. The 34th conference was held in America.
