Overview

Nepali Army Institute of Agriculture Sciences (नेपाली सेना कृषि विज्ञान संस्थान) was established in 2021 under the Nepal Army Welfare Fund and located in Besisahar, Lamjung, Gandaki Pradesh, Nepal. Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa and Officer Rathi Prabhuram Sharma jointly inaugurated the institute. The NAIAS has been established by the Military Welfare Fund of the Nepal Army in Bagalegaon, Besisahar-2, Lamjung.

Chief of Army Staff Thapa said that children of Nepali soldiers and non-military families could get quality education at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences. He said, "It aims to produce skilled manpower in the agricultural sector." He said that the Institute of Agricultural Sciences has been established to contribute to the economy of the country by expanding modern and scientific agriculture. He announced that after retirement, the Nepal Army would be trained in agriculture and animal husbandry to become self-employed in the village with his family.

Rathi Prabhuram Sharma said that since food security was also mentioned in the national security policy, the skilled manpower in agriculture and animal husbandry would be produced and the skills would be acquired.

Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Science and Technology, Ram Prasad Thapaliya, expressed confidence that the manpower produced by the Nepal Army Agricultural Science Institute would make a significant contribution to the commercialization and modernization of agriculture. He mentioned that the institute should focus not only on the subsistence agriculture system but also on commercial agriculture.

The institute, which will start teaching in November 2021, has received affiliation from TU for teaching BSc AG. The Udayapur-based Nepal Army Shrijang Gana has played a special role in the establishment of the institute.

Fruits, vegetables, farms, orchards, and tea gardens have been established in the agricultural sector. Poultry farms, cow farms, goat farms, wild boar farms, and fish ponds have been established in the institute, said Jayaram Thapa, Ganapati Chief Fighter of Shrijang Gana. According to him, 20 percent of the land of the Nepal Army Agricultural Science Institute, which has an area of ​​about 400 ropanis, will be used for physical infrastructure, 50 percent for agriculture, and 30 percent for animal husbandry. In the hands of the institute, infrastructure including buildings, dormitory and laboratory have been constructed in the administration and educational sector.

So far, 120 people, including general ranks and beneficiaries of the Nepal Army, are undergoing training in pre-diploma, plant science, and animal science. Assistant Principal Binod Ghimire informed that BSc. Ag. will be studied from the next academic session.

At present, the Nepali Army Institute of Agricultural Sciences has been raising pigs, cows, chickens, and goats as well as lemon, coffee, tea, and vegetable farming programs. The Nepal Army Institute of Agricultural Sciences (NAIAS) is the first in Nepal to conduct studies up to BSc AG through the Nepal Army Training Center.
