Overview
Maharajgunj Medical Campus (MMC) was established in 1972 as one of the nine campuses of the IOM (Institute of Medicine). It has played a significant role in conducting academic programs for the development of different categories of HRH (Human Resources for Health) in Nepal. MMC endeavors to create competent and diverse Human Resources for Health. HRH, ranging from a Primary Health Care worker to a Medical Specialist(MS) for rendering primary to tertiary health care in Nepal. MMC has certainly taken a long march in the field of medical education in Nepal.
The establishment of TUTH (Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital) in 1983, made the fact very clear imparting medical education does necessitate a teaching hospital to facilitate teaching-learning activities effectively. With the establishment of TUTH, MMC obtained the full status of the First Medical School in Nepal. Since then, it not only became responsible for catering quality medical education but also started to provide tertiary health care to all those coming to THTH. The faculty of medicine has played a dual role- that of a medical teacher and a medical specialist.
