Overview
College of Ophthalmic Science, Nepalgunj, Banke is located in Nepalgunj, Banke district of Nepal. It is one of the reputed colleges among seven other Ophthalmic Science colleges in Nepal. The college was established with the partnership of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh and Fateh Bal Eye Hospital. It is affiliated with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). It offers 3 years of full-time diploma-level programs in PCL in Ophthalmic Science. This college also provides various facilities, including a library, laboratory, counseling, Conference, multimedia, Journal, Placement, etc.
It started three three-year certificate-level courses in Ophthalmic Health Science in 2014. It will help us to fulfill the paramedical manpower needed to run and implement eye care programs in Nepal. It will also help to achieve goals in blindness prevention.
Ophthalmic Assistants (OA) are mid-level ophthalmic professionals. They perform eye examinations, diagnose most ocular disorders, treat minor ocular disorders, practice refraction and prescribe eyeglasses/contact lenses, perform various investigative procedures, identify cases requiring specialist care and refer them to the ophthalmologists, assist the ophthalmologists in different types of ocular surgeries and other sophisticated procedures, perform minor extra ocular surgeries independently carry out pre-operative and post-operative care, provide eye health education and counseling, organize and manage eye camps and conduct other community outreach activities such as school eye health program, etc., run the eye care centers acting as an in charge and conduct community level primary eye care training.
